X Bridge Design

The Raffia Bridge is designed to hold a four-pound brick while spanning two feet. The only materials allowed were six-inch bamboo skewers and raffia. This bridge was designed to be an arch, allowing it to hold more weight due to the created tension. Creating an arch using the ‘X’ shape allows the bridge to connect in the center, and lets the bridge stand by itself.
